The Problem

Gutter guards are not a sexy product. Nobody wakes up excited to think about their drainagesystem. The category is crowded, the product looks the same everywhere, and the averageconsumer has no reason to care until the gutters are already clogged and the ceiling is wet.Getting attention for a product nobody thinks about requires a reason to watch that has nothingto do with the product.

The Insight

Every homeowner knows the slow-burn tension of a maintenance problem that keeps comingback. It's not dramatic. It's just annoying, repetitive, and somehow always the other person'sfault. That dynamic is universal. And it's funny. We didn't need to explain what a gutter guard does. We needed to make someone laugh longenough to care.

The Approach

Two acts, two tones, one joke that runs through both.Act one: a couple in a therapist's office, the kind of low-stakes domestic tension everyonerecognizes. The therapist, without missing a beat, diagnoses the real problem. The gutters.Act two: a full tonal shift into retro infomercial territory. 3D product visualization rendered in cleandetail, paired with the kind of deadpan authoritative voiceover that peaked in 1994 and hasn'taged a day for comedic purposes. The contrast between the two halves is what made it work. Grounded comedy into deliberatecheese. Both earned their laughs differently.

The Work

Lead with the human problem, not the product problem. A couple arguing about gutters isrelatable in a way that a clogged downspout never will be.Put them in couples therapy. Let the therapist cut straight to the real issue. Let the absurdity ofthat setup do the heavy lifting before the product ever appears on screen.By the time the 3D visualization kicks in, the audience is already primed and laughing. The retrovoiceover style of 80s and 90s infomercials gave the product segment its own comedic layer, nostalgic, slightly over the top, and impossible to take seriously in all the right ways.

When the problem is the gutters, the solution doesn't have to be boring.
